A Year of Growth, Innovation and Environmental Stewardship

In 2025, Waldersey Farms 28-strong team cultivated, irrigated, harvested, stored and packed crops across the 20,000 acres across the Fens, producing food that contributed up to 21 million loaves of bread, 50 million portions of potato chips, 34 million packs of onions and over four million Halloween pumpkins.

The agricultural year began with onion drilling, followed by an intensive planting schedule of 25 acres of potatoes per day. Sugar beet, the farm’s largest crop by tonnage, was also established very well in the good spring weather.

However, 2025 proved to be one of the driest years on record, with only a third of expected rainfall between March and May. The team responded by working diligently to irrigate where needed, protecting the quality and yield of the farm’s produce.

As the festive season approaches, the packhouse is operating at full capacity, cleaning, bagging and sorting onions and potatoes to reach retailers and restaurants in time for Christmas.

This focus on productivity is matched by a commitment to nature-based solutions. An extensive environmental baselining project covering soil carbon, carbon emissions, biodiversity and water management is helping Waldersey Farms become a leader in the industry for balancing food production with environmental protection and enhancement.

With a diverse range of soil types spanning the farms, the team works centrally to ensure crops are properly rotated, soil is covered as much as possible, and land is allocated to agri-environmental schemes where most appropriate, creating safe habitats for wildlife.

Active management of hedgerows, field margins and waterways continues throughout the year, encouraging nature while monitoring and responding to our real-time biodiversity data, all while enhancing overall farm performance.

From field to fork, 2025 has demonstrated that sustainable, high-quality food production and environmental stewardship can work hand in hand, albeit we would like some more rain that this year has provided!

We would like to wish our fellow farmers, neighbours, customers and suppliers a very Happy festive period and a prosperous 2026.
