Farming
Working with the land
Our business is the largest singly-owned grade one soil type arable farms in the UK. Based in the agricultural heartland of the Fens near Downham Market, we produce potatoes, onions, sugar beet, wheat, spring barley, oilseed rape, peas and beans for a variety of mainly UK markets.
We are committed to nurturing our natural capital, developing a zero carbon farming system, enhancing important fenland environmental features and managing our soils for long term, sustainable productivity.
Technology
Adopting the latest technologies for a more sustainable farming system
To optimise the work we do at Waldersey Farms we invest heavily in the latest technology. Not only does this allow us to farm more efficiently, it means we can monitor existing practices and experiment with regenerative farming approaches to encourage soil health and biodiversity and minimise the use of synthetic inputs.
Satellite guidance, real time monitoring of all machinery through telematics, thorough analysis of our soils and our natural environment, and use of the latest grain and potato grading equipment enable us to provide customers with high quality produce sustainably.
Environment
Maintaining and enhancing the natural world we rely on
As custodians of the land, we believe it’s our responsibility to leave it in a better place than it was when we inherited it. As such, we work hard through a range of practices and external expertise to improve all aspects of our farms, from soil quality and carbon footprint, to water resilience and biodiversity.
We are working with the UK Centre of Ecology and Hydrology (UKCEH) to develop a comprehensive understanding of our natural capital to help us make positive natural capital management decisions for the long term.
Food
Feeding the nation
We grow a diverse range of cereals and vegetables on our land, including enough wheat to produce 50 million loaves of bread every year and enough potatoes for 30 million chip shop servings.
